Stage and screen star Sophie Okonedo comes to @sohoplace theatre in 2023, starring in Medea.

Directed by multi-award winning director Dominic Cooke (Follies), Medea will also star Ben Daniels (The Normal Heart).

 What could turn a woman from a lover into a destroyer of love? 

Medea tells the story of a woman laid bare by grief and rage, and her terrible quest for revenge against the men who have abandoned her. 

Who is in the cast of Medea?

Medea stars acclaimed stage and screen actress Sophie Okonedo (Death on the Nile, Slow Horses) in the title role, bringing her visceral, mercurial brilliance to literature’s most titanic female protagonist, whose complexity and contradictions have kept audiences on the edge of their seats, unable to look away, for almost 2,500 years. 

She is joined in the cast by Olivier Award nominee Ben Daniels (The Normal Heart, Foundation) as Jason/Creon/Aegeus.

Other cast include Marion Bailey as Nurse, Penny Layden as 3rd Woman of Corinth, Jo McInnes as 1st Woman of Corinth and Amy Trigg as 2nd Woman of Corinth. Understudies for the show are Alicia Charles, Leda Hodgson and Tom Peters.

Medea is written by Euripides, and this production is adapted by Robinson Jeffers.

Direction is by Dominic Cooke, with Design by Vicki Mortimer, Lighting by Neil Austin, Sound by Gareth Fry, Casting by Amy Ball, Children’s Casting by Amy Ball and Verity Naughton, Movement Director Lucy Cullingford, Associate Director Tanuja Amarasuriya, Production Manager Igor, Costume Supervisor Helen Johnson, Wigs Designer Sam Cox, Props Supervisor Mary Halliday and Vocal/Dialect Coach Jeannette Nelson.
