Cameron Mackintosh fortune tops £1 billion

Theatre impressario Cameron Mackintosh has seen his personal fortune top £1 billion for the first time. The West End producer has seen his fortune rise by a staggering £175m in the past year, and is now worth £1 billion. His 2013 fortune in the Sunday Times’ annual Rich List was £825 million. The rise is mainly due to profits from his 2012 blockbuster movie version of Les Miserables starring Hugh Jackman and the continued success of his stable of musical theatre hits. Movie News: BBC Films announce The Lady in the Van starring Maggie Smith, London Road

BBC Films has announced its new slate for the Cannes Film Festival and it includes a new film adaptation of hit play The Lady In The Van. Maggie Smith will return to the role she immortalised on stage in 1999 as Miss Shepherd, alongside Alex Jennings – who is currently starring as Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane – playing Alan Bennett. Peter Polycarpou and Gary Wilmot join the cast of The Pajama Game at the Shaftesbury Theatre Further casting has been announced for Richard Eyre’s Chichester revival of The Pajama Game, which is playing the Shaftesbury Theatre from 2 May 2014. Peter Polycarpou, Gary Wilmot and Colin Stinton will join the cast of the show, alongside already-announced leads Joanna Riding and Michael Xavier. Jeremy Herrin’s production of Another Country is transferring to the Trafalgar Studios in London following it’s sell-out run at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
