Book now for the world premiere of Night City, an epic modern drama about London’s invisible late-night workforce, written by Max Wilkinson and directed by award-nominated director Ebenezer Bamgboye at Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Set in a city that never sleeps, Night City is a bold, funny and deeply human new play exploring the highs and lows of London’s gig economy. Incorporating movement and an electric soundtrack, this epic modern drama unfolds across three intersecting stories, following three people pushed to their limits as they try to survive in a world of insecure work. Based on real experiences, it’s an ode to London and its invisible workforce.
New writing for the London stage
The play comes from acclaimed playwright Max Wilkinson, who returns to the London stage following his hit play Rainer, and whose “acidly funny” (Financial Times), “original, bold” (The Stage) writing frequently explores the absurdity of modern urban life.
It is directed by Ebenezer Bamgboye, the award-nominated director behind the acclaimed The Lonely Londoners and current Programming Associate at Southwark Playhouse, laced throughout with the sharp, dark humour that has become a hallmark of both writer and director.
Told through the interwoven stories of a driver, a care worker and a waitress, Night City captures a world of late-night rides and invisible labour, it’s a timely and electric portrait of the people who keep the city running unseen.
