Dame Maureen Lipman is returning to the West End this autumn in the new comedy Allegra.
Written by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow), Allegra is playing at the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre from 8 July to 8 August 2026.
Allegra is directed and choreographed by three-time Olivier Award winner Stephen Mear (Mary Poppins, Hello, Dolly!).

Meet the Allegra cast
Dame Maureen Lipman (Coronation Street, Rose) stars in the title role of Allegra, playing a woman who is so full of life and joy that she has an irresistible urge to sing!
Lipman is joined in the cast by Emmerdale’s John Middleton as Ronen, Elizabeth Bower (Trollied, Midsomer Murders) as Anna, and Bailey Patrick (Dear England, London Kills) as Officer Rogers.
The wider company includes Helen Goldwyn and Gareth Radcliffe.

A glorious comedy about ageing
Allegra bursts into song everywhere… at home, in the street, and even in shops and restaurants! Sometimes the orchestra plays only in her imagination. Sometimes it spills gloriously into the real world, much to the delight, confusion and occasional horror of everyone around her.
Her devoted brother Ronen (John Middleton) and her carer Anna (Elizabeth Bower) do their best to keep life steady, but how do you protect someone you love without dimming the light that makes them who they are?
Allegra is produced in the West End by Thomas Hopkins Productions and SAMS Entertainment, with Melissa & Bradford Coolidge and Trunfio McGill. The show is currently touring the UK, playing in High Wycombe until 23 May, and then visiting Aberdeen, Malvern, Richmond, Windsor, Glasgow, and Bath.
Maureen Lipman also starred in Peter Quilter’s play Rose, produced by Thomas Hopkins, on tour and in the West End.
Quilter’s drama End of the Rainbow is currently being revived in London, starring Jinkx Monsoon at Soho Theatre Walthamstow.
