Maureen Lipman in Allegra
Dame Maureen Lipman stars in Allegra at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 8 July to 8 August 2026.
Written by Olivier Award-nominated playwright Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow, Glorious!), this funny and touching new comedy with music follows Allegra — a woman so full of joy she cannot stop herself from bursting into song.
Heartwarming, funny and quietly emotional, Allegra explores family, memory and the fragile beauty of holding onto joy.
Joining Dame Maureen Lipman on stage is Emmerdale star John Middleton.

What is Allegra about?
Allegra is full of life, laughter and an irresistible urge to sing.
Whether at home, in the street or in the local shop, music spills into every part of her world — sometimes only in her imagination, and sometimes in wonderfully disruptive public performances that leave everyone around her completely bewildered.
As her brother Ronen and carer Anna struggle to manage her increasingly unpredictable behaviour, Allegra becomes a touching and uplifting story about family, memory and finding joy in difficult times.
What to expect at Allegra
Expect sharp comedy, heartfelt performances and spectacular musical moments in this uplifting new play from Peter Quilter.
Led by Dame Maureen Lipman, Allegra combines humour and emotional honesty in a warm and deeply human new West End production.
