Initial casting has been announced for Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s forthcoming revival of Once The Musical.
The show’s original West End and Broadway director John Tiffany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) is back to direct this new production, which is part of Pitlochry Festival Theatre in Scotland’s 75th anniversary season.
The Once cast will be led by West End stars Dylan Wood (Hadestown) as Guy, and Lydia White (The Girl From the North Country, Matilda) as Girl. Further casting is to be announced.
What is Once about? Once is set in Dublin, and the story follows Guy, a disillusioned street musician ready to leave his songs behind, and Girl, a spirited Czech immigrant who challenges him to believe in his talent. With the support of an unconventional group of friends and fellow musicians, they embark on creating an album together.
Written by Enda Walsh with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, the musical is based on John Carney’s 2007 film, which scored an Oscar for the song “Falling Slowly”. The show also won eight Tony Awards on Broadway and two Olivier Awards in the West End.
Director John Tiffany is reuniting with the show’s original creative team for this production, including designer Bob Crowley, choreographer Steven Hoggett, lighting designer Natasha Katz, music and orchestration director Martin Lowe, and sound designer Clive Goodwin.
Once is the opening production of Alan Cumming’s inaugural season as Artistic Director at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, and runs from 23 May to 27 June 2026.
