Harry Potter and the Cursed Child celebrates 10 years in the West End today. The production opened in 2016 in what was widely hailed as a groundbreaking moment for UK theatre, and a decade on it holds the record as the longest-running two-part play in modern West End history.
The numbers behind the milestone are extraordinary. The show has now been seen by over 2.5 million people at the Palace Theatre alone, including more than 300,000 first-time theatregoers, across 1,762 performances and over 8,300 hours of stage time. In total, 276 actors have appeared in the West End production, 45 of them making their professional stage debut. Worldwide, the play has now been seen by more than 14 million people, and holds a record 60 major theatre honours globally, including nine Olivier Awards: the most ever won by a play, and six Tony Awards.

Writer Jack Thorne called it “a truly wonderful experience,” adding that bringing new audiences to the Palace Theatre for their first ever visit to the theatre “is something we are all proud of.” Director John Tiffany paid tribute to “the many brilliant artists, both on stage and behind the scenes,” while producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender reflected that “no one involved in those earliest days could have foreseen that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would transform the theatrical landscape.”
“Ten years is a very big milestone. It’s fantastic to have been a show that’s been so beloved and has been able to be sustained for 10 years,” says Naana Agyei-Ampadu who plays Hermoine. “It shows that people love it enough to keep coming back. So for that, I think it’s an honour that it’s gone on for this long,” she told West End Theatre in a recent cast interview we did ahead of the anniversary.
This anniversary also marks the beginning of the end for the show as audiences have always known it. The original two-part production is now booking until its final performance on 20 September 2026, before Cursed Child reopens on 9 October as a reimagined single-part production, told in one complete sitting.
The current West End cast is led by David Ricardo-Pearce as Harry Potter, Claire Lams as Ginny Potter and Joshua Sullivan as Albus Potter, alongside Thomas Aldridge and Naana Agyei-Ampadu as Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Tamia-Renée Alexandra as their daughter Rose, and Oliver Boot and Kai Spackman as Draco and Scorpius Malfoy.
