Award-winning actress Frances Barber is set to star in major new thriller The Psychic, by writing duo Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman.

The Psychic follows the success of Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman’s Ghost Stories, and the pair are both writing and directing this new show.

Billed as a dark, twisty thriller, The Psychic will run at York Theatre Royal from 29 April to 23 May 2026.

There’s no current news on whether The Psychic will come to the West End.

Jeremy Dyson previously worked with Frances Barber on his BAFTA-nominated drama series Funland and the Rose d’Or-winning comedy series Psychobitches.

Andy Nyman is currently starring in The Producers at the Garrick Theatre in London. It was announced today that he is stepping away from the show for seven weeks to open The Psychic, with Richard Kind replacing him as Max Bialystock.

The Psychic follows popular TV psychic Sheila Gold as she loses a high-profile court case which brands her a charlatan.

It costs her not only her reputation, but a fortune in legal fees. When a wealthy couple ask Sheila to conduct a séance to attempt to make contact with their late child, Sheila senses an opportunity to bleed them for money. What follows makes her question everything she’s ever believed and leads her on a journey into the darkest corners of her life.

Frances Barber plays Rosa in the show, with full casting, including the role of Sheila Gold, to be announced soon.
