The new musical adaptation of hit movie PRIDE has announced casting ahead of its run at the National Theatre in London.
Pride The Musical is playing in the Dorfman theatre of the National Theatre from 11 June to 12 September 2026.
The show previews at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff from 31 March to 18 April 2026.
Pride will star Samuel Barnett (The History Boys) as Jonathan, Lewis Cornay (The Spongebob Musical) as Bromley, Matthew Durkan (A Christmas Carol) as Mike, Gillian Elisa (Billy Elliot) as Gwen, Robin Hayward (War Horse) as Martin, Chris Jenkins (Groundhog Day) as Gethin, Darren Lawrence (The Day We Sang) as Cliff, Jhon Lumsden (Heathers the Musical) as Mark, Kirsty Malpass (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Hefina, Sarah Pugh (Finding Home) as Sian, Jordan Shaw (Hadestown) as Reggie, Courtney Stapleton (Six The Musical) as Steph, Caroline Sheen (Mary Poppins) as Maureen, Mared Williams (Les Misérables) as Margaret, and Matthew Woodyatt (Fiddler on the Roof) as Dai.
The ensemble includes Daniel Forrester, Madeleine Morgan, Catherine Morris and Graham Vick.
Pride The Musical reunites the director of the award-winning film, Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical), with the film’s writer Stephen Beresford (The Last of the Haussmans).
The show has original music by Christopher Nightingale (A Christmas Carol), Josh Cohen (Sylvia) and DJ Walde (Sylvia), with a book and lyrics by Stephen Beresford.
Pride is the inspiring true story set during the 1984 miners’ strike, when a group of friends formed Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) before helping a small village in South Wales.
The creative team also includes set and costume designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lizzi Gee, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Bobby Aitken, music supervisor Tom Kelly, music director Jo Cichonska, wigs designer Helen Keane for Campbell Young Associates, casting director David Grindrod CDG, dialect coach Nick Trumble, voice coach Charlie Hughes-D’Aeth, associate director Jamie Manton, associate set designer Verity Sadler, associate choreographer Ashley Andrews, associate lighting designer Luca Panetta, associate sound designer Jonas Roebuck and staff director Jennifer Lane Baker.
Director Matthew Warchus said in a statement: “I’m very much looking forward to be working with such an outstanding group of performers to bring this remarkable and joy-filled true story to the stage.”
The show is produced by P&P Productions, with the National Theatre in association with Pathé.
