Hampstead Theatre has announced that its current revival of the late Tom Stoppard’s drama Indian Ink is extending for one week.
Indian Ink will now play at Hampstead Theatre in London until 7 February 2026.
The play is also touring to Theatre Royal Bath, running from 10 to 14 February 2026.
This is the first major revival of Tom Stoppard’s award-winning play, and is directed by Jonathan Kent.
One of Britain’s most accomplished and successful playwrights and screenwriters, Tom Stoppard died in November last year, aged 88.
Indian Ink stars Felicity Kendal (High Society, Noises Off, The Good Life) as Mrs Swan, who returns to the play that Tom Stoppard wrote for her 30 years after originating the role of Flora Crewe in the world premiere production.
The cast is also led by Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Grace Pervades) as Flora Crewe, and Gavi Singh Chera (Pins and Needles, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) as Nirad Das.
The cast also includes Sagar Arya (The Father and the Assassin) as Coomaraswami, Mark Carlisle (Once) as Resident, Neil D’Souza (Out of Season) as Dilip, Tom Durant-Pritchard (The Tempest) as David Durance, Aaron Gill (East is South) as Anish Das, Irvine Iqbal (The Father and the Assassin) as Rajah / Politician, Evan Milton (Edward II) as Englishman / Eric, Bethany Muir (Water Under the Bridge) as Englishwoman / Nell, Donald Sage Mackay (Girl From the North Country) as Eldon Pike and Sushant Shekhar (Sophia) as Nazrul.
Greg Ripley-Duggan, Producer and Chief Executive at Hampstead Theatre said in a statement: “The response to Indian Ink has been so extraordinary that I am thrilled we have found a way to extend its run. These extra performances will allow many more people to see Tom Stoppard’s glorious play and we look forward to welcoming them all to Hampstead Theatre.”
Indian Ink is set in 1930s India and 1980s Britain. In Thirties India, Flora Crewe, a noted Bloomsbury Group poet, undertakes a journey through India for her health. Free-spirited and without social inhibitions, she unsettles most people she meets, but secretly captivates Nirad Das, a handsome Indian painter.
In 1980s England, Flora’s sister, Mrs Swan, is visited by an American biographer trying to uncover exactly what took place on the trip – and then Das’ son appears in her garden with a painting of Flora by his father – a nude…
Joining Jonathan Kent in the creative team is set designer Leslie Travers, costume designer Nicky Shaw, lighting designer Peter Mumford, sound designer Christopher Shutt, composer Kuljit Bhamra and assistant director Finlay Glen. The casting director is Amy Ball.
