West End icon Maria Friedman stars in hit Broadway musical Kimberly Akimbo at Hampstead Theatre in London – a show brimming with hope, heartache and humour – showing until 14 November 2026.

Kimberly Akimbo from Tony Award-winner and Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire and Tony Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Titanic), won 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and is a coming of age story about Kim – a bright and funny teen who happens to look like a 72-year-old lady.

Maria Friedman, best known for her Olivier-winning roles in Merrily We Roll Along and Chess, plays Kimberly in this European premiere of the show at Hampstead Theatre in London. She is joined by West End powerhouse Alice Fearn (Wicked, Come From Away) as Debra.

The show is directed by Michael Longhurst (Caroline, or Change, Between Riverside and Crazy and Gloria), while its composer is Jeanine Tesori and its book writer and lyricist is David Lindsay-Abaire.

What is Kimberly Akimbo about?

The musical follows 15-year-old Kimberly Levaco, who has recently moved with her family to suburban New Jersey. She has a crush, she wants to be normal, and is trying to navigate her chaotic family – but she’s also aging four times faster than the average human, meaning she looks like a 72-year-old woman trapped in a teenager’s world.

Despite her rare genetic condition and the threat of possible felony charges looming over her head, Kimberly remains determinedly optimistic, ready to embark on the adventure of her life. 

Kimberly Akimbo is a tender, funny, life-affirming musical about a girl determined to find adventure despite the odds stacked against her.
