Theatre History
Since 1959 Hampstead Theatre has specialised in commissioning and producing new writing, and supporting and developing the work of new writers.
The original Hampstead Theatre Club was created in Moreland Hall in 1959, and the company moved to a portable cabin in Swiss Cottage in 1969 where it remained for nearly 40 years.
In 2003, the new purpose-built Hampstead Theatre opened in Swiss Cottage, designed by Bennetts Associates.
