British screen star Ambika Mod (One Day, This Is Going to Hurt) is starring in the world premiere of Porn Play at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Porn Play is running at the Royal Court Theatre from 6 November to 13 December 2025.
In the play, Ambika Mod stars as Ani, a dazzling young academic with a secret addiction to violent pornography. As her career and relationships unravel in between lectures on Paradise Lost, can she confront her uncontrollable desires?
Porn Play is written by Sophia Chetin-Leuner (This Might Not Be It) and directed by Josie Rourke, former Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse and Bush Theatre.
The creative team also includes: Dramaturg Gillian Greer, Casting Directors Jessica Ronane CDG and Saffeya Shebli, Production Manager Marius Rønning, Company Manager Mica Taylor, Lead Producer Ralph Thompson, and Executive Producer Steven Atkinson.
Writer Sophia Chetin-Leuner said in a statement: “Ever since I was a teenager, going to see plays at the Royal Court has shaped my ideals and purpose of who I want to be as a writer – so it’s a terrifying privilege to have Porn Play debuting here! I began writing this play to explore the effects of pornography on women, but it has evolved into something much more delicate and intricate over the years. And to have the support and championing of the incredible Josie Rourke has made me even more excited for the production – something I didn’t think was possible!”
Director Josie Rourke said: “It’s full of meaning for me to return to the Royal Court to direct a play that sits so squarely in the tradition and purpose of The Theatre Upstairs. The Royal Court is where I learned how deeply British Theatre values its playwrights and I’m honoured to be directing Sophia Chetin-Leuner’s exceptional play and thrilled to be working with the remarkable Ambika Mod.”
Porn Play is part of the Royal Court’s new season of plays for 2025, including world premieres of Deaf Republic, Cow | Deer, and The Unbelievers, and two touring productions After the Act, and ECHO.
Coming up at the Royal Court Theatre is Manhunt adapted and directed by Robert Icke, from 28 March; Scenes From A Repatriation from 25 April; and 4.48 Psychosis from 12 June.
Porn Play is playing at the Royal Court Theatre from 6 November to 13 December 2025.
