The Bridge Theatre’s acclaimed, immersive production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is returning to London this summer.
Directed by the Bridge’s artistic director Nicholas Hytner (Giant, The History Boys), A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run from 31 May to 23 August 2025.
This immersive production sees the seating wrapped around the action, and immersive tickets allow the audience to follow the story on foot. The theatre is turned into a magical, enchanted forest for Shakespeare’s classic comedy, in a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels.
The cast will include JJ Feild (Little Disasters, Austenland, Captain America) as Oberon/Theseus, Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice, This Time with Alan Partridge) as Titania/Hippolyta, Emmanuel Akwafo (For the Black Boys…, Sex Education) as Bottom and David Moorst (Killing Eve, Blitz) who returns to the role of Puck/Philostrate. Further casting is to be announced.
Joining Hytner’s creative team are award-winning production designer Bunny Christie (Evening Standard Theatre Award), costume designer Christina Cunningham, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Paul Arditti, composer Grant Olding, and movement director Arlene Phillips. James Cousins serves as associate director and associate movement director.
The original production starred Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Titania, Oliver Chris (Foundation) as Oberon, David Moorst (Allelujah!) as Puck, and Hammed Animashaun (Kiss Me, Kate) as Bottom, who won WhatsOnStage and Critics Circle awards for his performance.
The production’s premiere in 2019 (see production photos) was highly acclaimed by London’s theatre critics, with five stars from the Observer, Telegraph and Metro.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is playing at the Bridge Theatre in London from 31 May to 23 August 2025. Also announced today is a major revival of Into The Woods directed by Jordan Fein, which will run from 2 December 2025 until 8 April 2026.
Currently playing at the Bridge Theatre is Nicholas Hytner’s new production of Shakespeare’s Richard II starring Jonathan Bailey (until 10 May 2025).
Hytner’s other current projects include directing John Lithgow in Giant, which is transferring to the West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre from April 2025.
