Dazzling choreography and fabulous Gershwin tunes abound in this high-energy, five-star revival of classic musical Crazy For You, first staged at the Chichester Festival Theatre, now play at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London.
Based on George and Ira Gershwin’s Girl Crazy musical, Crazy For You is directed and choreographed by Broadway legend Susan Stroman, and is a glorious and spectacular night at the theatre.
This riotously fun musical is filled with wonderful Gershwin tunes, including Someone to Watch Over Me, Embraceable You, I Got Rhythm, and They Can’t Take That Away from Me, and it has breathtaking tap dance routines that are guaranteed to lift your spirits. Ken Ludwig, who wrote the Tony Award-winning Lend Me a Tenor, is responsible for the witty book.
An extraordinary cast is led by Charlie Stemp (Mary Poppins) as Bobby, Carly Anderson (Sunny Afternoon) as Polly and and Drama Desk Award winner Tom Edden as Bela Zangler
Crazy For You is now playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre until 31 December 2023.
Theatre-mad Bobby Child struggles to balance the demands of his wealthy New York fiancée and his mother, who both want him to lead the family bank, with his ambitions for a career in show business. He grudgingly travels to Deadrock, Nevada, a deserted mining community, to foreclose on a mortgage at his mother’s urging.
There he discovers that the property where the mortgage is owed is a run-down Victorian theatre and that Polly, the owner’s daughter, is the woman of his dreams. In an effort to rescue the theatre and revitalise the community, Bobby decides to stage a show using glitzy dancers from New York’s Follies in an effort to win her love and prove his good faith.
