Further casting announced for The Normal Heart at the National Theatre

The National Theatre has announced further casting for its Autumn production of Larry Kramer's ground-breaking play The Normal Heart. The play is set during the AIDS crisis in New York in the 1980s, written by American writer and activist Larry Kramer, who died last year aged 84. Ben Daniels (The Crown, The Exorcist, House of Cards) is set to star as Ned Weeks, alongside Danny Lee Wynter, Daniel Monks, Stanley Townsend, Robert Bowman, Liz Carr, Daniel Krikler, Elander Moore, Luke Norris, Henry Nott and Freddie Stabb. Dominic Cooke (Follies) will direct, with set design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by Paule Constable, costume design by Lisa Duncan, sound design by Carolyn Downing and fight direction by Bret Yount. The Normal Heart will open in September 2021 in the National's Olivier Theatre, as part of a new "in-the-round" season, where the Olivier has been turned into a fully in-the-round auditorium. The play first premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in April 1985, and premiered on Broadway in 2011 directed by Joel Grey.
