Andrew Scott’s performance in Simon Stephen’s acclaimed monologue Sea Wall is available to watch online.

A visibly younger Scott is mesmerising in the piece which was specifically written for him by the Tony and Olivier Award winning playwright.

Originally performed in 2012 at the Bush Theatre, it was revived in 2018 at the Old Vic where it formed part of the venue’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

Sea Wall is a unique and fascinating monologue about a photographer who speaks directly to the audience about his wife Helen, their daughter Lucy, and his father-in-law, a British war veteran fond of tennis metaphors who lives in the south of France.

A masterful exercises in narrative storytelling, the piece is arranged around massive, life-changing events but punctuated by hyper-specific recollections of courtship and domesticity.

The filmed performance is directed by Stephens and Andrew Porter.

Since performing the piece Scott has gone on to win accolades and acclaim for performances in Present Laughter (Old Vic), Hamlet (Almeida), Fleabag (tv), Sherlock (tv) and 1917 (film).

Sea Wall is available to watch until 18 May 2020.
