Comedian Jason Manford will star in a brand-new tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Curtains, which opens at the Churchill Theatre Bromley in October.
The comedian turned musical theatre star will play ‘Frank Cioffi’, a local police detective brought in to investigate the on-stage murder of Jessica Cranshaw.
The musical comedy is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots and follows the fallout when Jessica Cranshaw, the supremely untalented star of Broadway-bound musical Robin Hood is murdered during her opening night curtain call.
Manford was most recently on stage playing ‘Nathan Detroit’ in “Guys and Dolls” at the Royal Albert Hall. His other theatre credits include playing ‘Pirelli’ in “Sweeney Todd” at The Adelphi Theatre, ‘Caractacus Potts’ in the UK Tour of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and ‘Leo Bloom’ in the UK Tour of “The Producers”.
The production will be directed by Paul Foster (“Kiss Me Kate” and “Annie Get Your Gun” for Sheffield Crucible), with choreography by Alistair David (“Ghost” West End), Set Design by David Woodhead and Costume Design by Gabriella Slade.
Curtains has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb (“Cabaret” and “Chicago”), book by Rupert Holmes, original book and concept by Peter Stone with additional lyrics by John Kander and Rupert Holmes.
The 2007 Broadway production won three Tony Awards including Best Leading Actor in a Musical for David Hyde Pierce, Outstanding Featured Actress for Debra Monk and Outstanding Book of a Musical for Rupert Holmes and Peter Stone.
