Jodie Prenger to star in UK tour of Abigail’s Party

Jodie Prenger has landed the lead role in the UK tour of Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party.

Leigh’s groundbreaking comedy first premiered in the late 70s at Hampstead Theatre and is widely considered a classic of 20th-century British drama for its tragi-comedy and acute satire on the class-consciousness and social climbing of 1970s Britain.

Jodie Prenger said: ‘Abigail’s Party is a true British classic and a real bucket list part for me. I’m thrilled to be involved in something so wonderful. Can’t wait to get started.’

Prenger’s break-out role came via BBC One show ‘I’d Do Anything’ which saw her win the competition to play the role of Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh’s revival production of Oliver!

Prenger has since followed up her starring West End role with numerous theatre performances including The Lady of The Lake in the Spamalot, Dolly in the National Theatre’s production of One Man Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, the title role of Calamity Jane in the UK tour, Miss Hannigan in the UK tour of Annie, Shirley Valentine and most recently the lead role of Kelly in Kay Mellor’s Fat Friends.

Further casting to be announced.

The tour opens on 10 January 2019 at the Theatre Royal, Brighton followed by dates in Birmingham, York, Glasgow, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Woking, Northampton, Blackpool, Aylesbury, Liverpool, Dartford, Manchester and will conclude on 20 April 2019 in Edinburgh.
