DUSTY – a landmark new musical about the life of Dusty Springfield.
With a fiercely funny and emotionally charged script from BAFTA and Olivier nominated writer Jonathan Harvey (Beautiful Thing, Coronation Street), DUSTY is directed by Olivier Award-winner Maria Friedman (Merrily We Roll Along, Stepping Out).
DUSTY draws on the memories of her close friend, manager and authorised biographer Vicki Wickham, her lifelong personal assistant Pat Rhodes, and friend and record company executive Tris Penna.
DUSTY features many of the singer’s blazingly soulful pop hits, including I Only Want to Be with You, Son of a Preacher Man and You Don‘t Have to Say You Love Me.
Dusty – The Dusty Springfield Musical was rumoured to open in London’s West End however as it’s been a few years since it last toured, we assume it’s still in development.
What is Dusty – The Dusty Springfield Musical about?
The Woman. The Singer. Her Loves. Her Life.
A TV audience is waiting for one of the greatest soul singers Britain has ever produced to walk on stage and deliver her signature powerhouse performance for a live TV recording. But where is their idol? Having a nervous breakdown in the bathroom.
Jonathan Harvey beautifully weaves Dusty’s iconic songs into a true portrait of the iconic artist from sweet lifelong friendships and broken relationships, through a rollercoaster career as it’s derailed by uppers, downers and corkscrews.
