The producers of Zorro – the swashbuckling musical at the Garrick Theatre in London – have posted its closing notices.
Opening last summer to good reviews, the show will finish earlier than planned on Saturday 14 March.
Featuring music by the Gipsy Kings, over £2.8 million has been sunk into the production, and despite good audience turn out it wasn’t attracting the numbers needed to support a big cast and crew.
The musical is nominated for five awards in the forthcoming Olivier awards: best new musical, best actress (Emma Williams), actor (Matt Rawle) and supporting role (Lesli Margherita) in a musical and best theatre choreographer for Rafael Amargo.
Zorro has book & lyrics by Stephen Clark, music by The Gipsy Kings, original story by Stephen Clark & Helen Edmundson, music co-composed and adapted by John Cameron.
