Soapdish The Musical receives its London premiere in 2021.
The 1991 film followed the lives of cast and crew of a popular day-time soap opera The Sun Also Sets and starred Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Elizabeth Shue, Robert Downey Jr, Whoopi Goldberg and a calling card of cameo appearances.
The new musical is adapted by George Stiles (music) and Anthony Drewe (lyrics), the creative team behind West End hits Half A Sixpence, Mary Poppins and The Wind In The Willows.
What’s the Story?
When Celeste Talbert, long time star of popular day-time soap opera The Sun Also Sets, is targeted by her ambitious younger co-star, a chain of events are set in motion which leads to the dramatic revelation of Celeste’s secret love child.
With the fans turning against Celeste, who will triumph is played out on the shows live televised broadcast.
