Ivanov – Young Chekhov Season at the National Theatre

Exploring the birth of a revolutionary dramatic voice, the Young Chekhov Trilogy comes to the National Theatre following its acclaimed run at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2015.

These three plays, written when Anton Chekhov was young, offer a new perspective on the dramatist, revealing a youthful anger and romanticism that is very different to his mature, more familiar work.

Newly adapted by David Hare (Skylight, Pravada) and directed by Jonathan Kent (Gypsy, Private Lives), the productions, present a unique theatrical event which will see a repertory cast of actors performing 50 parts in Platonov, Ivanov and The Seagull.

Ivanov runs until 8 October 2016 at the National Theatre.

STORY

Nikolai Ivanov is only 35, a radical and a romantic, but already he’s feeling that he’s thrown his life away.

Determined not to become a small-town Hamlet, he hopes one last desperate romance may save him from a society rotten with anti-Semitism and drink. This electric play is powered both by hilarious satire and passionate self-disgust.

The cast features Emma Amos, Jonathan Coy, Mark Donald, Peter Egan, Col Farrell, Debra Gillett, Beverley Klein, Des McAlee, James McArdle, Mark Penfold, Brian Pettifer, Luke Pierre, Nina Sosanya, Geoffrey Streatfeild, David Verrey and Olivia Vinall.
