Claire Sweeney joins the West Yorkshire playhouse touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang playing Baronness Bomburst from 3 August 2016.
Sweeney replaces Michelle Collins who steps down from the role due to an ongoing knee injury. Collins wished Sweeney every success in the role and said “I will be really sorry to leave the fantastic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tour. I love playing the all singing and dancing Baroness Bomburst, but have been advised that the knee problem I have been managing along the way will not fully recover if I carry on for the rest of the 12-month tour.”
Sweeney is currently starring as Velma Von Tussle in the UK tour of Hairspray. Previous theatre credits include Chicago and Guys and Dolls in the West End and UK tours of Tell Me on a Sunday, Legally Blonde and Educating Rita.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a musical stage version of the 1968 film about a family with a flying car. The production has choreography from Stephen Mear and is directed by West Yorkshire Playhouse artistic director James Brining. The cast includes Lee Mead, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Jason Manford and Shaun Williamson.
