New production photos have been released of Claire Sweeney as the gloriously spiteful Miss Hannigan in the UK and Ireland tour of Annie — and they capture the star in full, scenery-chewing form, presiding over her orphanage of misfits with exactly the right blend of menace and comedy.

Sweeney leads the company alongside Alex Bourne as the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, Tanisha-Mae Brown as Grace Farrell, Christian Cooper as the conniving Rooster, and Amber Kennedy as Lily St. Regis. The title role of Annie is shared across the tour by Victoria Alsina, Sophia Saravanan and June Young.

Set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression, Annie follows a brave young orphan forced to endure a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage — until her fortunes change when she’s chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas with the famous billionaire Oliver Warbucks. But spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas, hatching a plan to spoil Annie’s search for her true family. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book and score, the production includes the unforgettable songs It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow.

Directed by Curve’s Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Nick Winston and design by Colin Richmond, the production is currently playing in Blackpool, before continuing to Newcastle, Dublin, Bristol, Nottingham, Hull, Edinburgh, Liverpool and beyond throughout the tour.
