Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
In a new adaptation by Samuel Adamson, Michael Morpurgo’s novel is one “that you know from the start is going to break your heart” (Times). A story of love, loss, loyalty and of living for the moment.
With a cast of 40 directed by Artistic Director Timothy Sheader and original Chichester director Dale Rooks, Running Wild has puppetry design and direction by Finn Caldwell and Toby Olié, both previous Associate Puppetry Directors on War Horse, this is the largest-scale production ever to be presented at the Open Air Theatre.
Running Wild will run from 13 May 2016 until 12 June 2016 at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
For Will and his mother, going to Indonesia isn’t just a holiday. It’s a new start, and the chance for Will to ride an elephant called Oona. But then the tsunami hit.
Charging deep into the jungle Oona escapes the beach, but with her rider still clinging on, Will must now learn to survive the rainforest – and he is not alone.
The cast features Okorie Chukwu (Red Bandana/Mahout), Joyce Henderson (Grandma), Hattie Ladbury (Mum/Geraldine), Ira Mandela Siobhan (Dad/Hunter), Stephen Ventura (Mr Anthony), Laura Cubitt, John Leader, Michael Taibi, Ben Thompson will play Oona an elephant, Stuart Angell and Sarah Mardel will play Mani an orangutan, Romina Hytten will play Charlie an orangutan and Fred Davis will play Tonk an orangutan. Joshua Fernandes, Tyler Osborne and Ava Potter will alternate the role of Will.
Co-directed by Timothy Sheader and Dale Rooks, with design by Paul Wills. Puppetry design and direction is by Finn Caldwell and Toby Olié with original music by Rod Paton, sound score by Nick Powell and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph
