Anthony Horowitz’s hilarious new comedy starring Steven Berkoff will receive its world premiere at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Dinner with Saddam will play a limited season from 10 September 2015 until 14 November at Menier Chocolate Factory.
STORY
“Saddam, fearful of assassination attempts, was known to move regularly from private home to private home. Even before the war, he declined to spend nights in one of his palaces. (USA Today, 20th April 2003).
So what happens when Saddam Hussein turns up on your doorstep and announces he is staying for dinner?
Political and personal issues are top of the menu, but behind the kitchen door something else far more sinister is cooking…
CAST
The cast is led by Steven Berkoff, with Sanjeev Bhaskar, Nathan Amzi, Ilan Goodman, Rebecca Grant and Shobu Kapoor.
Nathan Amzi’s theatre credits includes Urinetown (Apollo) and In the Heights (Southwark Playhouse). He also appeared in the recent film of London Road.
Steven Berkoff is a prolific actor, director and writer, he was most recently on stage in An Actor’s Lament. His screen work includes War and Remembrance, Beverly Hills Cop, Octopussy and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Sanjeev Bhaskar is well known for his TV appearances including Mumbai Calling and Meet the Kumars. Film work includes Anita and Me and Notting Hill.
Ilan Goodman’s recent credits include Bad Jews (Theatre Royal Bath and Arts Theatre) and Call the Midwife (BBC).
Rebecca Grant’s theatre credits include Around the World in Eighty Days (New Vic Theatre / Royal Exchange) and Wah! Wah! Girls (Kneehigh / Sadlers Wells).
Shobu Kapoor is best known for her TV roles as Mrs Khan in Citizen Khan (3 series) and Gita in EastEnders. Her theatre credits includes What Fatima Did (Hampstead) and Yerma (Arcola).
CREATIVE
Anthony Horowitz’s new play is directed by Lindsay Posner, with design by Tim Shortall, lighting by Howard Harrison, sound by Gregory Clarke, and music by Matthew Scott.
Anthony Horowitz is a hugely successful and prolific writer. He is the author of over 40 books including the best-selling Alex Rider series, the recent Sherlock Holmes novels, The House of Silk and Moriarty and the forthcoming James Bond novel Trigger Mortis. For TV he has written for Midsomer Murders and also created Foyle’s War.
Lindsay Posner’s numerous productions include She Stoops to Conquer (Theatre Royal Bath), Communicating Doors & Abigail’s Party (Menier Chocolate Factory), Hay Fever and A View From the Bridge (Duke of Yorks theatre) and Noises Off (Old Vic/West End.
