STORY
April, 1984. Comrade 6079, Winston Smith, thinks a thought and starts a diary.
But Big Brother is always watching, and the door to Room 101 can swing open in the blink of an eye.

The cast features Rosie Ede (Call the Midwife) as Mrs Parsons, Andrew Gower (Monroe) as Winston, Joshua Higgott (Oresteia, Almeida/West End) as Syme, Richard Katz (Nell Gwynn, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Charrington, Anthony O’Donnell (The Captain of Kopenick, National Theatre) as Parsons, Daniel Rabin (Pericles, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Martin, Catrin Stewart (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Clywd Theatre Cymru) as Julia and Angus Wright (The Cherry Orchard, Young Vic) as O’Brien.
Eve Benioff Salama, Cleopatra Dickens, Amber Fernee and India Fowler will alternate the role of Child.

George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece 1984 returns to the West End.
Following an international sell-out tour, Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan's adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 returns to the West End this summer.
Since premiering at Nottingham Playhouse in September 2013, the production has now played the Almedia Theatre, two West End runs and a sell-out international tour with over 250,000 people having seen the production.

Full casting has been announced for the West End run of 1984

The West End run of 1984 which is to return to the Playhouse theatre this Summer has announced full casting. Matthew Spencer will play the role of George Orwell’s Winston Smith, Julia will be played by Janine Harouni until 25 July, and then Hara Yannas from 27 July to the end of the run. Simon Coates, Tim Dutton, Stephen Fewell, Christopher Patrick Nolan, Ben Porter, Gavin Spokes and Mandi Symonds complete the cast.
All the cast members are returning to the show, having previously appeared in the touring, Almeida or West End productions. Matthew Spencer played Syme in 2014, as well as understudying Winston Smith. All the other cast members are resuming roles they have played before.
