In a new video released to celebrate St. Swithin’s Day, Sharon Rose, star of the upcoming One Day the Musical, sings an acoustic version of ‘Blackbird.’ She is accompanied by Abner Ramirez, who wrote the music and lyrics alongside Amanda Ramirez.

Emma and Dex on St. Swithin’s Day
St. Swithin’s Day on July 15 is at the heart of One Day. In David Nicholls’ beloved story, it’s the date on which Emma and Dex meet up, year after year, as their lives change and their relationship evolves.
As the old saying goes, ‘St Swithin’s day if thou dost rain, for forty days it will remain.’
Author David Nicholls intentionally picked this date, centring his story around the idea of that one day setting the pattern for everything that follows. For Dex and Emma, that one day a year shapes everything, and readers get a sense of how much each of them is growing and changing.
Ultimately, One Day is a celebration of love and friendship, and the song ‘Blackbird,’ written for the musical, beautifully captures the vulnerability of the pair’s first meeting. Filmed at the Garrick Theatre, the song is performed by actress Sharon Rose alongside the song’s writer, Abner Ramirez.
One Day in the West End
One Day the Musical comes to the West End following a sell-out run at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, starring Jamie Muscato (Cabaret, The Great Gatsby) as Dexter and Sharon Rose (Sylvia, Hamilton) as Emma.
Both Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose will reprise their roles in the West End production.
Based on David Nicholls 2009 novel, One Day has already seen two screen adaptations: a film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, and a recent Netflix miniseries starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod.
The new stage production is directed by Max Webster (The Importance of Being Earnest, Life of Pi) and features original folk-pop songs by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of Johnnyswim, with additional lyrics by Freya Catrin Smith (Ride A New Musical).
One Day the Musical will run at the Garrick Theatre in London from 17 November 2026 – 14 March 2027.
