Stage and screen star Vanessa Williams has moved forward her departure date from The Devil Wears Prada, from October to September. Williams has been starring as the formidable Miranda Priestly since the musical opened in the West End.
It was announced earlier in the year that Williams and co-star Matt Henry both extended their run in the production until mid-October. Henry will stay on until then as originally planned, but Williams steps down from the role on 19 September.
Williams is perhaps best known for playing Wilhelmina Slater in smash-hit TV series Ugly Betty, but she has cultivated a rich stage and screen career over the years. Her theatre credits include The Witch in Into the Woods, Aurora in Kiss of the Spider Woman and Julie La Verne in Showboat.

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada
Williams was praised by critics for her take on the fierce Editor-In-Chief, calling her a shoe-in for the role. Matt Henry was also praised for his take on Miranda’s right hand man Nigel. Both actors are set to depart the production this fall, but so far no whispers have surfaced as to who could step into their well-heeled shoes.

Since the beginning of the run, Williams has only taken one week away from the production in January 2025, during which time her understudy Debbie Kurup stepped in. It remains to be seen whether Kurup will step into the role full time, but new casting news is expected to be announced soon.
