Production photos have been released of the RSC’s production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui starring Mark Gatiss.

Seรกn Linnen directs Bertolt Brechtโ€™s political comedy classic, in a new version by Stephen Sharkey, with music by Placebo. The production is now playing at the RSC’s Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon until 30 May 2026.

The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui stars two-time Olivier Award-winner Mark Gatiss (Inside No.9) in the title role of the notorious gangster and small-time crook Arturo Ui, joined by BAFTA Award-winner Mawaan Rizwan (Juice, The Rocky Horror Show) as violent gang member Giri, and double Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee (Follies) as Betty Dullfeet.

The production also features Kadiff Kirwan (Intimate Apparel) as Arturo Uiโ€™s faithful henchman Roma, Christopher Godwin (Noises Off) as Dogsborough and LJ Parkinson (Cowbois) in the role of master manipulator Givola.

The cast is completed by Joe Alessi as Butcher/Dullfeet/Prosecution, Valerie Antwi as Ensemble/Swing, Mark Hammersley as Ensemble/Swing, Rebekah Hinds as Flake/Dockdaisy, Cameron Johnson as Mulberry/Jimmy Greenwool/The Judge, Samuel Nunes de Souza as Ensemble, Mahesh Parmar as Dogsborough’s Son/Fish/Inna, Santino Smith as Sheet/Hook, and Amanda Wilkin as Clark/Ragg/The Woman.

Bertolt Brechtโ€™s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a riotous โ€˜gangster spectacleโ€™ set in the back alleys of Chicagoโ€™s criminal underworld.

The play offers a blistering satire on Hitlerโ€™s ascent to power, and a chilling warning from history which continues to echo down the centuries.
