The RSC has announced full casting for its new production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui starring Mark Gatiss.
Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui will play at the RSC’s Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 11 April to 30 May 2026.
Already announced in the cast is two-time Olivier Award-winner Mark Gatiss (Inside No.9) in the title role of the notorious gangster and small-time crook Arturo Ui.
He will be joined by BAFTA Award-winner Mawaan Rizwan (Juice, The Rocky Horror Show), making his RSC debut in the role of violent gang member Giri, with Kadiff Kirwan (Intimate Apparel) as Arturo Ui’s faithful henchman Roma, double Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee (Follies) as Betty Dullfeet, Christopher Godwin (Noises Off) as Dogsborough and LJ Parkinson (Cowbois) in the role of master manipulator Givola.

The cast is completed by Joe Alessi as Butcher/Dullfeet/Prosecution, Valerie Antwi as Ensemble/Swing, Mark Hammersley as Ensemble/Swing, Rebekah Hinds as Flake/Dockdaisy, Cameron Johnson as Mulberry/Jimmy Greenwool/The Judge, Samuel Nunes de Souza as Ensemble, Mahesh Parmar as Dogsborough’s Son/Fish/Inna, Santino Smith as Sheet/Hook, and Amanda Wilkin as Clark/Ragg/The Woman.
Seán Linnen directs, in a new version by Stephen Sharkey, with music by Placebo.

Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a riotous ‘gangster spectacle’ set in the back alleys of Chicago’s criminal underworld.
The play offers a blistering satire on Hitler’s ascent to power, and a chilling warning from history which continues to echo down the centuries.
Last week the RSC announced its full season of productions for 2026 – 2027.
