The Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester has announced a revival of Noël Coward’s classic comedy Private Lives, starring Olivier-winning stage and screen actor Jill Halfpenny.
Private Lives is playing at the Royal Exchange Theatre from 27 March to 2 May 2026 as part of their 50th anniversary season.
The production will be directed by award-winner Blanche McIntyre (The Assembled Parties, The Birthday Party).
Jill Halfpenny returns to the Royal Exchange following her acclaimed performance in A Taste of Honey in 2024. Her other stage credits include her Olivier Award-winning performance in Legally Blonde, Chicago, and Abigail’s Party.
On screen she is best known for performances in shows including EastEnders, Coronation Street, Waterloo Road, The Feud, The Long Shadow and After the Flood.

Blanche McIntyre is joined in the creative team by: Designer Dick Bird; Lighting Designer Johanna Town; Sound Designer Gregory Clarke; Fight Director Philip d’Orleans; and Casting Director Annelie Powell CDG.
Jill Halfpenny said in a statement: “The Royal Exchange has always had a special place in my heart, so I am delighted to be returning to the theatre to celebrate its 50th anniversary season. Private Lives perfectly showcases Noël Coward’s genius, and I can’t wait to step into Amanda’s feisty shoes to bring this classic comedy caper to life.”
Private Lives is running at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester from 27 March until 2 May 2026.
