A new twelve-part podcast about acclaimed musicals composer Stephen Sondheim is being released this March.
Loving You: The Untold Sondheim will be released from 5 March 2026, and is a personal celebration of Stephen Sondheim by his friends Martin Milnes and Peter E. Jones.
Stephen Sondheim died in November 2021 aged 91. He composed a succession of much-loved musicals including Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Company, Sunday in the Park with George and Follies. His show Into the Woods is currently playing at the Bridge Theatre in London.
The podcast promises to share exclusive, heartfelt recollections from the composer’s long-time close friends, family and esteemed colleagues from Broadway, the West End, Hollywood and beyond.
Hosts Milnes and Jones have spent two years creating the twelve-part documentary series, with each episode exploring different aspects of Sondheim’s life, personality and private passions.
It marks the first time in over 25 years that Peter E. Jones has spoken publicly about his romantic relationship with Sondheim, the composer’s first official partnership, and their subsequent decades-long friendship.
The series features informal personal chats with Sondheim’s friends, collaborators and interpreters including Dame Julie Andrews, Jamie Bernstein, Dame Judi Dench, Mia Farrow, Ronan Farrow, Maria Friedman, Adam Guettel, John Kander, James Lapine, Patti LuPone, Maltby & Shire, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bernadette Peters, Jonathan Tunick, John Weidman and Maury Yeston. Family memories are recalled by Stephen’s half-brother, Walter E. Sondheim.
Further guests and interviewees are to be announced.
The Loving You: The Untold Sondheim podcast is written, devised, directed and co-produced by Martin Milnes. Co-producer Peter E. Jones composed the podcast’s original score, and the podcast is Executive Produced by Jason Caffrey of Creative Kin Ltd.
The first two podcast episodes will be released on Thursday 5 March 2026, the next two on Thursday 12 March, and then one episode is released per week.
