One of the defining rom-coms of the genre, Sleepless in Seattle will be performed live in concert for the very first time on Valentine’s Day 2026 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
This world-premiere live-to-film event will see the 1993 classic screened in full on a huge HD screen, accompanied by a live band and full orchestra performing Marc Shaiman’s celebrated score in sync with the film.
Directed by the queen of romantic comedies Nora Ephron, Sleepless in Seattle stars Tom Hanks as widowed father Sam Baldwin and Meg Ryan as journalist Annie Reed, two strangers brought together by fate, chance encounters and near-misses on opposite sides of the country. Since its release, the film has become a defining rom-com of its generation, cherished for its wit, warmth and enduring romantic appeal.
Audiences at Royal Festival Hall will be able to rediscover the magic of the film through its iconic music, which blends classic love songs with Shaiman’s original compositions. The soundtrack famously includes A Wink and a Smile, performed by Harry Connick Jr., which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
Composer Marc Shaiman said: “I am so thrilled to learn that my score for Sleepless in Seattle is going to be performed live at London’s Royal Festival Hall. It truly was a great blessing to be part of this now iconic film and I hope both the orchestra and the audience have a swinging time at this live-to-film performance and go together like a wink and a smile!”
The film itself received further Academy Award recognition for Best Original Screenplay, alongside multiple Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Actor for Tom Hanks.
With the story by Jeff Arch and the screenplay by Nora Ephron and David S. Ward and Jeff Arch, TriStar Pictures’ Sleepless in Seattle was produced by Gary Foster and executive produced by Lynda Obst and Patrick Crowley. The movie also stars Bill Pullman, Ross Malinger and Rob Reiner.
