MILES., the Miles Davis-inspired show, transfers to Southwark Playhouse Borough this February after its sell-out Edinburgh Fringe run.
It runs from 4 February to 7 March 2026.
Written and directed by Oliver Kaderbhai, MILES. stars acclaimed trumpeter and DJ Jay Phelps (Wynton Marsalis, Amy Winehouse, Wizkid) alongside Benjamin Akintuyosi. The two-hander delves into the creative chaos behind Kind of Blue — the best-selling jazz album of all time — blending live performance, improvisation and multi-rolling storytelling to explore Davis’s life, legend and legacy.
The production marks the centenary of Davis’s birth and captures the pressure, innovation and addiction that fuelled a genius who redefined modern music. Inspired by Davis’s autobiography and archival recordings, MILES. moves fluidly through time, memory and influence in what The Times called “a hypnotic play that works superbly.” ★★★★
Writer and director Oliver Kaderbhai said: “Bringing Miles’ story to Southwark Playhouse Borough 100 years after his birth feels like the perfect place to explore the legacy of a complex man whose music transcends time, place and race whilst being rooted in all of those things. Miles’s Kind of Blue resonates with a contemporary audience as much, if not more, than it did when it was released in 1959.”
Kaderbhai, founder of theatre company :DELIRIUM:, has directed Clybourne Park (Park Theatre), Peter Pan (Chichester Festival Theatre) and Go To Your God Like A Soldier (Old Vic Tunnels), and worked on major productions including Hamilton (UK tour) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre).
Canadian-born Jay Phelps has built an international reputation over two decades, performing with jazz greats including Wynton Marsalis and Shabaka Hutchings. His latest album The Now was released with Apple Music’s Platoon label. Phelps also presents on Jazz FM and Worldwide FM, and runs SoulEndvr, a music casting agency for film and television.
The creative team includes set and costume design by Ellie Wintour, lighting design by Alex Lewer, sound design by Will Tonna and p.rojection design by Colin J Smith.
MILES. runs from 4 February to 7 March 2026 at Southwark Playhouse Borough, London.
