Andrew Lloyd Webber’s company LW Entertainment is manifesting an arena tour for Jesus Christ Superstar starring Cynthia Erivo!

Earlier this month the 3-night rock revival of Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar played to over 50,000 people at LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Playbill hailed the production as “as close to a religious experience as a musical theatre performance can get”.

The star-studded show was led by Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Cynthia Erivo (Wicked, Dracula), the first woman to play the role of Jesus in the musical, and Grammy-nominated star Adam Lambert (Cabaret) as Judas Iscariot.

A statement yesterday from Lloyd Webber’s LW Entertainment said that the success of this production is “prompting calls for an arena tour.”

Given that Lloyd Webber is a major producer, through his joint venture with Michael Harrison, suggests that if Andrew Lloyd Webber wants an arena tour, he may well get one. However, further official details were not provided.

Cynthia Erivo may find it difficult to schedule a tour anytime soon, given her other commitments. The official press junket for the second Wicked movie, Wicked: For Good, has now started ahead of its 21 November 2025 global release date. Also, Cynthia Erivo is returning to the West End next year, starring in Kip Williams’ production of Dracula at the Noel Coward Theatre in London, from 4 February to 31 May 2026.

Adam Lambert’s casting as Judas follows his six-month run as the Emcee in Rebecca Frecknall’s production of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway.

The news came as Lloyd Webber confirmed that his nearly 50 year old company The Really Useful Group is rebranding to LW Entertainment, continuing to manage the composer’s hit shows including The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Sunset Boulevard and Starlight Express.

Jesus Christ Superstar was originally conceived as a 1970 concept album, and was first performed at the Hollywood Bowl way back in 1971, the same year it premiered on Broadway. In the West End, the show opened at the Palace Theatre in London in 1972.

This production was directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, and the cast also included John Stamos, who replaced Josh Gad as King Herod, Phillipa Soo as Mary Magdalene, Milo Manheim as Peter, Raúl Esparza as Pontius Pilate, Brian Justin Crum as Annas, Tyrone Huntley as Simon, and Zachary James as Caiaphas.

The Ensemble featured Natalie Babbitt Taylor, Isaiah Bailey, LJ Benet, Damian Caraballo, Cooper Clack, Jennifer Florentino, Sara Gomez, Emily Goglia, Summer Nicole Greer, Ayana Haviv, Christopher Hernandez, Juliet Johnson, Oyoyo Joi, John Krause, Gracie Laboy, Brandon Leffler, John E. Lucas, Nathan Madden, Morgan Marcell, L.T. Martinez, Mariah Meshae, Clinton Roane, Brad Sharp, Krystle Rose’ Simmons, Joey Taranto, Ian Ward, and Suzanne Waters.

In the wider creative team were conductor and musical director, Stephen Oremus; scenic designer, Jason Ardizzone-West; costume designer, Emilio Sosa; projection designer, Peter Nigrini; lighting designer, Tyler Glover; lighting designer, Tyler Lambert-Perkins; sound designer, Jonathan Burke; Hair, Wig and Makeup Designer, Brandi Strona; associate director, Marc Tumminelli; associate choreographer, Christopher Hernandez; associate musical director & associate conductor, Jared Stein; props coordinator, Kirk Graves; costume supervisor, Kim DeShazo; and production stage manager, Meredith J. Greenburg. Casting was by The Telsey Office, and the show was produced in association with Neil Meron and Robert Greenblatt.

Other new productions of Jesus Christ Superstar include the Watermill Theatre in Newbury’s production, which is now playing until 21 September 2025.
