The RSC has announced full casting for their new production of The Constant Wife by Laura Wade, based on W. Somerset Maugham’s play.
Directed by RSC Co-Artistic Director Tamara Harvey, The Constant Wife is playing at the RSC’s Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 20 June to 2 August 2025.
Already announced is Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, The Good Fight, Miss Austen, Vigil), making her RSC debut as Constance Middleton.
Joining Rose will be stage and screen star Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Inventing Anna), daughter of legendary actor Richard Burton, playing Mrs Culver, Constance’s mother.
The cast also features Raj Bajaj (The Buddha of Suburbia, Tupperware of Ashes) as Bernard Kersal; Emma McDonald (The Serpent Queen) as Marie-Louise Durham; Mark Meadows (Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Flowers for Mrs Harris) as Bentley; Daniel Millar (The Play That Goes Wrong) as Mortimer Durham; Amy Morgan (Dear Octopus) as Martha; and Luke Norris (The Motive and the Cue) as John Middleton.
Off-stage understudies are Connor Going and Jess Nesling.

Joining Tamara Harvey on the creative team are: Set and Co-Costume Designer, Anna Fleischle; Co-Costume Designer Cat Fuller; Lighting Designer, Ryan Day; Composer Jamie Cullum; Sound Designer, Claire Windsor; Movement and Intimacy Director Annie-Lunnette Deakin-Foster and Casting Director, Charlotte Sutton CDG.
This production is commissioned by and presented in association with West End producer David Pugh.

Director Tamara Harvey said: “I am so excited to welcome our company for The Constant Wife to the rehearsal room, bringing together internationally renowned talent, new voices making their RSC debuts, as well as some familiar faces. We are thrilled to welcome Kate Burton, who received a Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of Constance on Broadway in 2005, and who now returns to the play as Constance’s mother Mrs. Culver. I can’t wait to discover what her experience of the play will bring to the room. Joining Kate and Rose in their RSC debuts are Amy Morgan and Emma McDonald. We are also delighted to welcome back familiar faces, including Raj Bajaj, who starred in our acclaimed production of The Buddha of Suburbia last year, as well as Mark Meadows, Daniel Millar, and Luke Norris. Thanks to the RSC’s flexible working practices, many members of our acting company are also parents, and we feel privileged that they have chosen to join us.”
It was announced earlier this month that pianist, singer and broadcaster Jamie Cullen is composing the music for The Constant Wife.
The Constant Wife is running at the RSC’s Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 20 June to 2 August 2025.
