The Bridge Theatre has unveiled a new season, featuring a major revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods alongside the return of its immersive A Midsummer Night’s Dream. These two productions, running in succession, promise a season of theatrical magic at the London venue.

Nicholas Hytner’s acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be the first to take the stage, running from 31 May to 23 August 2025. First seen at the Bridge in 2019, this immersive take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy transforms the theatre into an enchanted forest, where audiences can move among the action. The cast includes JJ Feild (Captain America, Austenland) as Oberon/Theseus, Susannah Fielding (The Merchant of Venice, This Time with Alan Partridge) as Titania/Hippolyta, Emmanuel Akwafo (For the Black Boys…) as Bottom, and David Moorst (Killing Eve, Blitz), who reprises his role as Puck/Philostrate. Hytner leads a creative team featuring award-winning production designer Bunny Christie, costume designer Christina Cunningham, and lighting designer Bruno Poet.

Following this midsummer spectacle, Into the Woods will take over the Bridge Theatre for a strictly limited 20-week run from 2 December 2025 to 18 April 2026. Directed by Jordan Fein and designed by Tony Award-winner Tom Scutt, this production marks the first major London revival of the Sondheim classic in nearly a decade. The musical weaves together fairy-tale characters such as Cinderella, Jack, and Little Red Riding Hood as they navigate the consequences of their deepest wishes, all set against one of Sondheim’s most dazzling scores.

Bridge Theatre co-founder Nicholas Hytner described Into the Woods as “one of the great achievements of the American stage” and expressed his excitement at Fein’s involvement, citing his acclaimed Fiddler on the Roof at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre as a standout work. Further casting and creative team details will be announced in due course.

Currently playing at the Bridge Theatre is Nicholas Hytner’s new production of Shakespeare’s Richard II starring Jonathan Bailey (until 10 May 2025).
