Theatre Royal Bath Productions has announced full casting for John Patrick Shanley’s award-winning drama Doubt A Parable.
The revival will run at Theatre Royal Bath’s Ustinov Studio from 7 February to 8 March 2025.
Already announced is Maxine Peake (Dinnerladies, Shameless, Silk, The Hollow Crown).
Maxine will be joined by Olivier Award winner Ben Daniels (The Rings of Power, The Crown, House of Cards), and West End star Rachel John (Girl From The North Country, Hamilton, The Bodyguard).
The cast will also include Holly Godliman (The Woman in Cabin 10, Top Girls).
The production is directed by Lindsay Posner (Noises Off, A View From The Bridge, The Deep Blue Sea), and the creative team also includes set and costume designer Peter McKintosh, lighting designer Paul Pyant and Casting Director Ginny Schiller CDG.
Doubt: A Parable is centred on a Catholic school in the Bronx, 1964. Sister Aloysius, the strong-minded principal has her suspicions that one of her teaching fathers is abusing a vulnerable pupil. Without proof, she is forced to take matters into her own hands. As the elements of her investigation come invigoratingly together like clockwork, the gripping story poses fascinatingly nuanced questions of moral certainty.
John Patrick Shanley’s play Doubt won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Best New Play Tony Award in 2005, and was turned into a hit film in 2008 starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The play was also revived on Broadway earlier this year, starring Liev Schreiber, Amy Ryan and Quincy Tyler Bernstine.
Doubt A Parable is playing at the Ustinov Studio at the Theatre Royal Bath from 7 February to Saturday 8 March 2025.
Lindsay Posner’s recent Bath production of The Deep Blue Sea is transferring into the West End next year, playing the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 7 May 2025 starring Tamsin Greig.
