THE FULL MONTY: The Full Monty to close early

The Sheffield Theatres production of The Full Monty is to close early at the Noel Coward Theatre in the West End.

The play was scheduled to end its run at the Noel Coward Theatre on 14 June but the producers of the show have announced that it will now close on 29 March 2014.

After a sell-out run at Sheffield Theatre and a successful National tour, the play was on track to be a big hit in the West End, but ticket sales have been poor.

The show was nominated for an Olivier Award last week for Best New Comedy.

Adapted by Simon Beaufoy from his hit 1997 screenplay and directed by Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director Daniel Evans, the show stars Kenny Doughty as Gaz, Craig Gazey as Lumper, Simon Rouse as Gerald, Keiran O’Brien as Guy, Roger Morlidge as Dave and Sidney Cole as Horse.

The producers of The Full Monty, David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers, said in a statement that, “It is with great sadness that this show will close despite having played to packed houses on its UK tour. Simply not enough of a West End audience shared in the excitement of this terrific production.”

The show will continue on a 32 week UK tour in September opening at the Manchester Opera House.

The 29 March is also the date that sees Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Stephen Ward and Tim Rice’s musical From Here to Eternity leave the West End.
