WINNERS ANNOUNCED: Read about the winners of this year’s Sky Arts Awards 2024

Sky Arts have revealed nominations for its inaugural Sky Arts Awards 2024.

The new awards, which were announced last week, celebrate all arts disciplines, and have replaced the long-running South Bank Sky Arts Awards.

The Sky Arts Awards ceremony will take place on 17 September 2024 at The Roundhouse in London, and will be broadcast live on Sky Arts and Freeview.

In the Theatre category, new West End theatre @sohoplace is nominated, alongside Welsh theatre The Sherman Theatre in Cardiff, and playwright Ryan Calais Cameron (For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy).

Nominees for the Times Breakthrough Award include Ben Weatherill (Frank and Percy).

The lifetime achievement award will be renamed the Melvyn Bragg Lifetime Achievement award, in honour of South Bank Show host Melvyn Bragg, who announced last August that he was leaving the show after 46 years.

The awards have also added a new category, Arts Hero Award, which will honour unsung, behind-the-scenes heroes who are integral to the industry’s success. You can nominate your Arts Hero, nominations close on midnight Sunday 11 August.

The Sky Arts Awards jury will include West End star Beverley Knight, with further jurors to be announced.

Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts, said in a statement: “This year we’re rallying around the question of why the arts matter, helped by the inimitable Lord Melvyn Bragg, all the artists who appear in our shows, and the expert juries assembled for each awards category. Following in the footsteps of the South Bank Sky Arts Awards, the Sky Arts Awards will allow us to celebrate and venerate all the arts in one place, and definitively prove the value of the sector. And with the cohort of superstar nominees below, it’s going to be an unmissable night.”
