Theatre Royal Bath announces new productions including Lindsay Posner directing 1984, and Nathaniel Parker & Dame Siân Phillips in Terence Rattigan double-bill Summer 1954

Theatre Royal Bath have announced a number of new shows for their autumn 2024 season.

A new touring production of Yasmina Reza’s Olivier, Tony and Moliere Award-winning play Art is coming to Bath from 3 to 7 September 2024.

An immediate smash-hit when the English-language version first premiered in the West End, Iqbal Khan (East is East, National Theatre and Othello, RSC) directs an all-star cast in this brand-new production, which is also touring to venues including the Sheffield Lyceum.

Also in September, Lindsay Posner (A View From The Bridge, The Lover/The Collection) directs a thrilling new stage version of George Orwelll’s 1984 by Ryan Craig (Filthy Business, Our Class).

Running from 20 to 28 September, in a world where every action is painstakingly monitored and controlled, Winston Smith’s simple diary puts his life in jeopardy. A clandestine love affair with co-worker Julia further enrages the authorities, but can they truly trust each other? And what of the mysterious O’Brien? Will he help them overthrow the regime, confront them with their most terrifying fears, or worse…?

1984 is set to tour after its Theatre Royal Bath run, with further details to be announced.

Rebus: A Game of Malice is playing from 30 September to 5 October as part of a UK tour. A splendid dinner party in an Edinburgh stately home concludes with a murder mystery game created by the hostess. A murder needs to be solved. But the guests have secrets of their own, threatened by the very game they are playing. And among them is Inspector John Rebus. True crime is his calling. Is he playing an alternative game, one to which only he knows the rules?

The new touring production of The Rocky Horror Show is coming to Theatre Royal Bath from 14 to 19 October 2024.

In October, stage and screen stars Nathaniel Parker and Dame Siân Phillips lead an ensemble cast in a brand new production, Summer 1954, featuring a double-bill of Table Number Seven and The Browning Version by Terence Rattigan.

Directed by Olivier Award winner James Dacre (Four Quarters, Blue/Orange), Rattigan’s one act masterpieces Table Number Seven, from Separate Tables and The Browning Version are paired together for the first time, capturing one quietly momentous evening seventy years ago.

Summer 1954 is playing at Theatre Royal Bath from 24 October to 2 November 2024.

Currently playing at Bath’s Ustinov Studios is Lindsay Posner’s revival of Harold Pinter’s The Lover/The Collection. Posner’s Bath production of Arthur Miller’s A View From The Bridge starring Dominic West is coming to the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 23 May 2024.
