The Cord – cast announced for Bijan Sheibani’s new play at the Bush Theatre

Casting has been announced for The Cord at the Bush Theatre in London.

Bijan Sheibani’s new play is an intensely frank and relatable insight into the challenges of being a parent and a child, no matter how old you are.

Lucy Black – currently appearing in Sheibani’s acclaimed production of Till The Stars Come Down at the National Theatre – will play Jane, alongside Eileen O’Higgins (Billy The Kid, Mary Queen of Scots) as Anya and Irfan Shamji (Chasing Hares, Young Vic) as Ash. The play will have music composed and played by cellist Colin Alexander.

Lynette Linton, Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre said, ‘We all love Bijan, and to have someone with that reputation and talent to come to The Bush and want to make a show for a second time really speaks to the work we are doing to create an environment where incredible work gets a life. His talent and the impact of this play will last for long after us – his work belongs in the canon, and it is a joy to be asked to stage it for the first time.

The Cord is packed with characters that are so layered and full and real, it makes you feel like you could be any of them at any time in your life. It will make you dive into your moral compass and ask: how did I react when that happened to me? Would I do the same thing? How would I respond in that position? It will leave our audiences thinking about the legacy they will leave behind.’
