West End stars Bonnie Langford and Anna-Jane Casey performed a famously complicated dance routine from the multi-award winning musical Chicago at the WhatsOnStage awards ceremony last week.

Paying tribute to the late, great Chita Rivera, Bonnie Langford and Anna-Jane Casey brought the awards ceremony to a close with an incredible finale, of the ‘Hot Honey Rag’ from Chicago. See here for a full list of performances and winners.

Anna-Jane Casey recently appeared in Cabaret and is set to appear in the West End premiere of Fawlty Towers The Play playing Cybil. Bonnie Langford is next set to appear in the 10th Anniversary Concert of Made in Dagenham at the London Palladium.

Rivera, who died on 30 January 2024 at the age of 91, was nominated for a Tony Award starring as Velma Kelly opposite Gwen Verdon in the original cast of the musical Chicago

Winner of six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy, Chicago is one of Broadway’s most famous musicals with red-hot choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse. In January of last year, the Broadway production broke box-office records achieving its biggest weekly gross at the Ambassador Theatre in its 26-year history.

The production last appeared in London’s West End in 2019 with the revival starring the late Caroline Flack as Roxie Hart, Todrick Hall as Billy Flynn, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart. Denise Van Outen had been scheduled to play Roxie but was forced to withdraw whilst in rehearsal due to injury.

The much-loved musical last toured the UK in 2022 in a production starring Lee Mead as Billy Flynn, Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart, Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly, Jamie Baughan as Amos Hart and and B.E. Wong as Mary Sunshine. Towie star Gemma Collins had been due to play Mama Morton but was forced to withdraw due to injury with Brenda Edwards taking her place to play the infamous jailer.

Chicago has Book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Hit songs from the show include “Razzle Dazzle”, “Cell Block Tango” and “All That Jazz”.
