A new cast and extended booking period has been announced for The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre.
The Bodyguard, the musical based on the Whitney Houston movie and featuring her songs, is to get a new cast at the Adelphi Theatre in London from September 2013.
British singer songwriter Beverley Knight will take the starring role of Rachel Marron in the show, replacing current star Heather Headley. The title role of the bodyguard Frank Farmer, employed to protect superstar singer Rachel Marron from a stalker, will be played by Tristan Gemmill (Casualty), who replaces Lloyd Owen in the role.
Based on Lawrence Kasdan’s film and directed by Thea Sharrock with a book by Alex Dinelaris, The Bodyguard will extend its run at the Adelphi Theatre until 8 March 2014.
Other cast include Debbie Kurup as Nicki Marron, Richard Lloyd King (Bill Devaney), Stephen Marcus (Tony), Dominic Taylor (Sy Spector), Michael Rouse (Stalker) and Stuart Reid (Ray Court).
The show features many of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits including Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I’m Your Baby Tonight, Run to You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and one of the greatest hit songs of all time – I Will Always Love You.
Dubbed the Queen of British Soul, Beverley Knight is a singer/songwriter who has sold over a million albums in the UK and has won three MOBO Awards, an Outstanding Achievement Award at the Urban Music Awards and multiple BRIT nominations.
Heather Headley will continue to perform until 11 August 2013 (not 3pm or 5pm shows). Gloria Onitiri will play the role of Rachel from 12 August to 7 September 2013. Beverley Knight joins from 9 September 2013 (not matinee shows).
