The original production of hit musical The Book of Mormon played its 4643rd performance this week (28 December 2023), passing Jersey Boys to become the 12th longest running show in Broadway history.
To celebrate, the Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon sang a mashup of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons hits “Walk Like A Man” and “Man Up” in tribute to Jersey Boys.
Since opening on 24 March 2011, The Book of Mormon has become one of the most successful shows in Broadway history, breaking the Eugene O’Neill Theatre house record more than 50 times. In addition to nine Tony Awards including Best Musical and the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, The Book of Mormon won five Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Drama League Award for Best Musical and four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Musical.
The Book of Mormon is also continuing its long West End run at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London.
The London production opened on 21 March 2013 at the Prince of Wales, and won four Olivier Awards including Best Musical. In March 2023, the show celebrated its 10th birthday in the West End.
The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. The production is choreographed by Casey Nicholaw and is directed by Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker.
Set design is by Scott Pask, costume design is by Ann Roth, lighting design is by Brian MacDevitt and sound design is by Brian Ronan. Orchestrations are by Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus, and Music direction and vocal arrangements are by Oremus.
