An Officer and a Gentleman The Musical is set to tour the UK in 2024.
This romantic musical comedy first appeared at the Curve in Leicester in 2018, and is now off on the road with a huge tour of the UK.
The tour starts at The Alexandra theatre in Birmingham on 23 February 2024, and will visit locations including Brighton, Manchester, Oxford and York.
The show is based on the much-loved 1982 movie starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger, and has a book by Douglas Day Stewart and Sharleen Cooper Cohen. Direction is by Artistic Director of Curve Nikolai Foster, with choreography by Joanna Goodwin.
Casting for the show is to be announced.
An Officer and a Gentleman is a timeless story of love, courage, and redemption, that promises to make your heart soar and leave you breathless, as Zack Mayo, a fearless young officer candidate, meets captivating Paula Pokrifki. Their encounter ignites a spark that transcends boundaries, awakening a passionate love that defies all odds.
The musical soundtrack features songs from the 80s and 90s with artists including Madonna, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie and more, and includes the big power ballad from the movie – (Love Lift Us) Up Where We Belong.
Other members of the creative team will include musical supervision and orchestration by George Dyer, set and costume design by Michael Taylor, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Tom Marshall, wig, hair and make up design by Sam Cox and casting by Debbie O’Brien.
Director Nikolai Foster said in a press statement: “Filled with love and quiet profundity, An Officer and a Gentleman sensitively charts the lives of working class, military folk in America in the early 1980s. We are proud to be working alongside the film’s creator Douglas Day Stewart, producer Jamie Wilson, Sharleen Cooper Cohen and an incredible creative team to present this beautiful and inspiring story. We are excited to share some iconic 80s songs and this moving story with audiences across the UK.”
The show is produced by West End showman Jamie Wilson (Mrs Doubtfire The Musical, Sister Act The Musical, Ain’t Too Proud), plus Jack Maple, Gavin Kalin and Jason Haigh-Ellery in association with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros Theatre Ventures.
