A thrilling new musical featuring the voice and music of opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

Acclaimed director Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) and Grammy award-winner Jacob Collier present a stunning new musical based on the life and music of Pavarotti.

The show features cutting-edge sound design technology created by Ben Bloomberg at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which isolates Pavarotti’s extraordinary voice from recordings, and is then performed with harmonies sung live by singers.

The new musical has a book by Hilary Bell, Miriam Buether will design, and Ashley Warren is the choreographer.

The musical is inspired by the voice of Luciano Pavarotti, bringing his incredible story to life through his original recordings, and is supported by Pavarotti’s widow Nicoletta Mantovani, the Pavarotti Foundation and Universal Music Group.

Stage Spy: Are Pavarotti The Musical & Into the Woods getting closer to the West End?
West End producer John Berry has revealed that his forthcoming musical about Pavarotti and recent production of Sondheim's Into the Woods are both getting closer to West End runs. In an interview with the Financial Times he talks about the forthcoming Pavarotti musical, and how, following workshops for the show, "video tasters are being shared with interested parties — and the vision of its creators is quite clear". The creators range from The Greatest Showman's Michael Gracey, who is set to direct, to Grammy award-winning Jacob Collier, who is responsible for the music. Other creatives signed up include writer Hilary Bell, designer Miriam Buether and choreographer Ashley Warren. Former artistic director of English National Opera, John Berry runs production company Scenario Two Productions with producer Anthony Lilley. The Pavarotti musical was first announced in December, and is underpinned by some fancy new technology from MIT, which has isolated Pavarotti's incredible voice based on recordings, and can then be harmonised by live singers. It means it will actually be Pavarotti's voice that is singing in the musical, which will see a fictionalised version of Pavarotti's youngest daughter, Alice, taking the audience through the story of the show. The story sounds intriguing - and is based on letters in the Pavarotti archive from people all over the world whose lives were changed by listening to him sing. The show is sanctioned by Pavarotti's widow Nicoletta Mantovani, the Pavarotti Foundation and Universal Music Group. Also waiting in the wings for a West End run is their revival of Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods, which enjoyed a short run last year at the Theatre Royal Bath and enjoyed largely positive reviews from the critics. The pair have already said that the show is heading into the West End - and this interview confirms that, saying: "Sondheim’s Into the Woods, with Gilliam and Leah Hausman as directors, has already opened in Bath and there are plans to get that into the West End." Scenario Two also announced last month that another of their development projects is taking shape. David Baddiel’s The Parent Agency is getting a musical remake, with Dan Gillespie Sells writing the songs, and Nadia Fall, artistic director at Theatre Royal Stratford East, set to direct. The Pavarotti show has been discussed since 2019, and was originally slated for 2021. There are no dates on when it, or Into the Woods, will debut in the West End.
