Based on Judith Kerr’s beloved and iconic stories for the stage, this lively and enchanting production features songs, live music and a menagerie of creatures little and large.

These timeless tales of family and friendship are brought to life to allow a new generation of children to fall in love with Mog.

Mog is a very forgetful cat. She forgets that she has a cat flap, she forgets that she’s already eaten her supper, and she forgets that cats don’t have eggs for breakfast every day. Bother that cat! But Mog’s forgetfulness can come in handy.

Join Mog and the Thomas family, on a journey through one year in the life of a really remarkable cat, as she catches a burglar, gatecrashes a cat show, goes to the V.E.T. and gets to eat lots and lots of eggs.

The acclaimed stage adaptation of Judith Kerr's much-loved children's book Mog The Forgetful Cat is coming to the Old Vic theatre in London. The show will run from 11 to 29 July 2023 at the Old Vic. Mog The Forgetful Cat had its world premiere at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton in June, and is a co-production with them, the Old Vic and the Wardrobe Ensemble. The musical play for children is also going on tour, with dates including the Bristol Old Vic (14 - 18 February 2023), Curve Leicester (21 - 25 February 2023), Lowry Salford 4 - 8 April 2023), Belgrade Theatre Coventry (30 May - 3 June 2023) and Exeter Northcott (16 - 18 June 2023). Matthew Warchus, artistic director of The Old Vic, said in a press statement: "Judith Kerr's wonderful stories are timeless adventures for adults and children alike. It's been a great treat to work alongside The Wardrobe Ensemble and Royal and Derngate on this terrific adaptation of Mog. Judith Kerr’s Mog The Forgetful Cat to get new stage adaptation
Much loved children's author Judith Kerr, whose best-selling story The Tiger Who Came to Tea has become a huge hit on stage, will have another of her stories adapted for theatre. Judith Kerr's Mog The Forgetful Cat is to be adapted for the stage for the first time. The world premiere will take place at the Royal & Derngate Northampton on Friday 3 June 2022, as part of its Made in Northampton 2022 season, and runs until Sunday 19 June, before touring the UK. Royal & Derngate’s Resident Ensemble Company, the acclaimed Wardrobe Ensemble, have adapted Judith Kerr’s story in a collaboration between co-producers Royal & Derngate Northampton, The Old Vic and The Wardrobe Ensemble. Royal & Derngate Artistic Director James Dacre told the press today that: “These magical stories, from one of the country’s greatest writers for younger audiences, have delighted generations of children. We’re thrilled to be welcoming back The Wardrobe Ensemble and to be partnering with The Old Vic for the first time to reimagine them for the stage.” Helena Middleton of The Wardrobe Ensemble said: "I absolutely loved the Mog books growing up. We used to have a book fair at my school and I would literally race there to make sure I was the first to get my hands on a copy.
